Visit Kampala, Uganda's Capital

Kampala, Uganda’s capital is also known, like Rome, as the city of seven hills.

We can organise city tours for you, including visits to royal palaces, national museums, the houses of parliament, the Anglican Cathedral, mosques and the Bahai temple.  

You can enjoy the various songs and dances from around Uganda at the Ndere Centre, or visit the Royal Tombs and Martyr’s Shrine.

Kampala is also known for its vibrant nightlife and our tour package can include trips to the city’s finest restaurants, bars and clubs.

Jinja - the source of the Nile is a must-see

Jinja is the source of the Nile, the world’s longest river. Martha’s Farmhouse is only 50 minutes drive from Jinja and the journey there offers stunning views of thick forests, tea and sugar plantations and Uganda’s main hydroelectricity dam.

Jinja, which is the adventure capital of Uganda, offers white water rafting, body surfing, kayaking and bungee jumping on the banks of the Nile. Other activities also include architectural walking tours, horseback riding, bike tours and a visit to the Nile reptile park, all round a lush tropical atmosphere.

If a relaxed visit is more your style, then Jinja’s main street offers several cafes and restaurants with an international feel.

Trekking in Mabira Forest

Just a 30 minute drive from Martha's Farmhouse is Mabira Forest.  This is Uganda’s largest tropical rainforest and is the perfect destination for a day-trip.

The rainforest has over 200 tree species and its various trails provide guests with the chance to indulge in trekking, mountain biking.  The rainforest is very popular with bird-watchers, who visit from across the world.

For the more adventurous, a zip-line is available for a bird’s eye view of the forest. The lush vegetation also gives way to secluded spaces that are perfect for picnics and a viewing platform provides you the chance to relax in its shady comfort while viewing the playing monkeys. 

Visit Mukono, the local town

We are only 20 minutes from Mukono, with its local shopping, vibrant market and one of Uganda's largest universities.  There is a reasonable local swimming pool at the Collin Hotel in the town. 

We are happy to organise an Uber to Mukono and provide you with ideas on the best places to shop.

Beat the traffic by flying to Jinja

In case driving through Kampala traffic is not your idea of a fun, we can organise a light aircraft charter to fly you direct from Entebbe airport to Jinja airfield, an easy drive from Martha's Farmhouse.

Light planes can also be chartered at Jinja airfield to take you to many other destinations across Uganda.

Get involved in the local community

As a developing country, Uganda is still greatly affected by poverty. Twenty-five percent of the population live below the poverty line and those in the villages are most affected. 

At Martha’s Farmhouse we can organise for our guests to make a real difference by sharing their time, skills and knowledge to address some of the most pressing challenges affecting to the local community. You can help by by teaching at a school, helping at a child-care centre, hospital or in a conservation project.

Getting involved is open to volunteers of all ages, abilities and experiences and you do not need to be an expert to help.
